Pat Tanner runs the Extend fitness classes for people over sixty each Thursday at St Cuthberts Church between 10.30 and 11.30 a.m. There are 15 regulars, and there’s space for 10 more. If you are interested, turn up at the church, or give Pat a call on 0121 748 2992.
You may stuggle to catch Pat at home; she’s a busy lady. She runs fitness classes all over the West Midlands – eight classes per week, in fact, at Pype Hayes, Streetly, Darlaston, Water Orton, Castle Bromwich and Tividale, as well as in Castle Vale.
Pat, who will be 74 in April, says: ” Most of the class are between 75 and 80 years old. We’ve got some younger ones; my oldest is a gentleman of 92. He comes every week. We do light exercise to music each week, and a bit of line dancing.I’ve recently introduced some Tai Chi, the martial art, into the sessions. It’s very gentle, and it helps you to relax your mind and body, and it improves your balance, which is very important as you get older. After the session, we all stay around for about half an hour, to have a cup of tea, a biscuit and a chat. Everyone enjoys it. It’s good for your body, and a nice social event.”
Pat is hosting a Christmas party at St Cuthberts for her Extend group at 7.30pm on Thursday 20th December.
