Birmingham Council’s all-powerful Cabinet will tomorrow consider the final Audit Commission (Government) report on the Council’s performance for last year. The report, heavily laden with civil service jargon to the point of being at best dull, and at worst incomprehensible, has been delayed, partly because it discovered ‘more than a small number of non-trivial errors’ in the Council’s finance reporting. Presumably that phrase means, ‘lots of serious errors’.
On the plus side, the Council has been given 3 out of 4 for performance, and is making good progress.
Two statistical points of note highlighted in the report: 7 out of 100 people are avoiding paying their council tax. And crime in the City is down by 20%………….. no, really.
