Castle Vale Nursery has been described as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors.
Headteacher Lesley Wiltshire said: “”This is a fantastic report and it is pleasing to have the children’s achievement described as “excellent” by Ofsted.
“Many of our children begin education from a low starting point so it is pleasing to have their achievement described as ‘excellent’ by Ofsted.
“Castle Vale often gets over-looked but we have a fantastic community here and people really want their children to achieve.”
“We put a lot of effort into making sure our children learn in a colourful and positive environment. When Ofsted were here we had set up the maths area as a bowling alley which allowed pupils to learn calculation without even realising it. The staff here are excellent and are always putting on imaginative activities for the children.”
Ofsted gave the nursery an overall Grade 1 “outstanding” for its overall effectiveness – the highest grade awarded by the inspection body. It noted that on entry children performed at considerably lower levels than expected. However, due to “consistently high quality teaching”, they made excellent progress and by the time they leave nursery the majority had caught up in all areas of learning. School meals were praised and Ofsted also noted the progress made in pupil’s confidence and self-esteem. Support for children with complex learning difficulties and disabilities was praised along with the “endless opportunities for children to learn, explore and investigate”. d
