White working class boys – the lowest achievers

Birmingham Education Authority is organising a conference aimed at improving the performance of white working-class boys. According to the organisers: “White boys on free school meals are the lowest achieving group of pupils nationally with white disadvantaged girls also under-performing.” They claim that Birmingham “is at the forefront in tackling this area of educational disparity.”
Key note speakers at the event are Dr Steve Strand, from Warwick University and Denis Mongon, from the University of Manchester, both experts on educational attainment. The conference will be held at the NEC on Monday 21st September.
