Putting the private option for golfers

The Council is planning to hand over control of its seven municipal golf courses to a private company. Martin Mullaney, the Cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure, is to present the proposals to the cabinet on Monday. The Council is inviting bids from private investors, in a process termed ‘competitive dialogue’.
Mr Mullaney has previously expressed his hope that privately owned companies can be persuaded to run expensive, loss-making council leisure services such as swimming baths and golf courses, in the hope that it will ease the financial crisis facing the City council.
