Summer slimming tips…. for horses

Owners of horses on the Farnborough Road paddocks are asking members of the public not to feed horses that have been fitted with muzzles. The muzzles have been fitted to some horses to restrict grazing and prevent obesity.
Lynne Witkamp, spokesperson for the horse owners, says: “Obesity is the second biggest killer in horses, colic being first. We have encountered the general public trying the force a carrot through the hole in the muzzle thereby defeating the object. We try every approach to give our horses a happy and healthy lifestyle.”
Many of the horses are now wearing fly rugs and masks for protection against flies and other insects which can be a source of irritation during the summer months.
