A bra recycling bank is being set up in Centenary Square near the Floozie in the Jacuzzi as part of the Birmingham Climate Change Festival (5th-7th June).
The unwanted bras will be sent to third world countries for use by women who would otherwise not have access to such garments, says the Council.
The bra-recycling scheme has been successfully tried in many towns and cities across the country. One of the organisations promoting the campaign, BCR Global Textiles, says that textiles make up 3% of household waste, and only 25% of textiles are recycled.
Birmingham Women’s Hospital set up a similar project two years ago for members of staff, patients and visitors to the hospital.
