Castle Vale punters back Spain

18.5% of World Cup bets at William Hill in Castle Vale are going on Spain to lift the trophy. England are second favourites with 17% of the bets, and Brazil are third with 15%.
“Turnover is good at the moment,” says a William Hill spokesman, “but we are expecting an even busier time in the next few days. When people bet on Premier League football, they tend to leave it until the day of the game because they don’t like their money to be somewhere for long where they haven’t got control or access to it. We expect over £100 million nationally to be put on the World Cup. Later this week, as we get closer to the start of the tournament, we expect betting to go through the roof. It will have a good knock-on effect on the Premier League. Football betting is a large part of our business nowadays, and the World Cup will lift the profile of the game even higher. With so many of the World Cup players featuring in next season’s Premier League, the tournament will have a very positive effect on the domestic game”
