Party time

Crowds of people at Party in the Park

Hundreds of people came to Centre Park today to enjoy a carnival atmosphere where performers entertained throughout the afternoon. Top of the bill were 70s tribute band Ballroom Glitz. They were supported by comedy jugglers The Dangerous Brothers. Local dancers also took to the stage. Birmingham Lord Mayor Len Gregory officially opened the event.

Audience volunteer Adam demonstrates real bravery by continuing to wear an England shirt. The Dangerous brothers juggle batons and throw them past a cigarette holder in Adam's mouth.

It was good to see so many people of all ages enjoying themselves. It was good to meet friends including the police, the councillors, CVCHA staff and many others. We noticed too the faithful army of litter pickers helping keep the place neat and tidy – well done to all concerned!

party in the park was quite crap this year. unless it picks up next year it will be the last i go to. Oh and please… ditch the bloody line dancing.

  4. To all those people who thought that the Party in the Park was not very good this year, how about joining the volunteers who work hard every year organising the event?

  5. you will never be able to please everybody. if you dont like the carnival then dont go!
with all the unemployed people on castle vale why not get involved with organising next years event instead of moaning about it. you dont have anything else to do.
some people really do need to get a life.

  6. do all you who are moaning about the carnival realise that everything bob does is all voluntary.
he doesnt have to do it
if it wasnt for him and his volunteers there wouldnt be a carnival.
you all need to get a job and stop moaning
put something back into the community instead of take take take

  7. Actually, Bob doesnt do it on a voluntary basis. He gets paid £3000 for doing it. Facts should be checked before people write on this site!!!

The other dancers were supposed to be from Poland. I saw them in erdington this afternoon. They said that they can undercut (edited) linedacing next year by 75%.

  9. Just a note for all contributors……
Much as I want people to be able to express their honestly held opinions, I feel uncomfortable when individuals are named and criticised in a comments section.
Please continue to add constructive comments and general opinions, but please don’t use this website as a forum for slagging people off. Criticisms of events are fine, but not criticisms of individual people.

    Thanks
    Editor

PS I have edited down some of the comments in the past few minutes. During today I have had to edit out completely some comments that went way beyond an acceptable level.

Just a minor nit-pick about the Programme:
“16th. Annual Year” isn’t quite right, in fact it’s tautology. Either “16th. Year” or “16th. Consecutive Year/Event”, maybe even “16th. Annual Event”, but NOT “Annual Year”. pleeeeeze!!!

HERE, HERE !!! Very well said editor. some people steep so low, it seems they get some kind of kick out of bringing others down. Sadly it becomes an obsession for some. Better to concentrate more on making their own lives richer! My family, friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the day, we thought it was fantastic !!! The little ones are still talking about it now and the adults commented on a great atmosphere and how there was entertainment to suit all ages. Well done to Bob-it couldnt have been achieved without all his hard work.(as noone has his experience!)Shame hes not appreciated more around this area. Hes open eared to new ideas but they cannot happen over night !! A day like Party in the Park took months of hard work and organising ahead of it-something alot of people dont take into consideration!! Theres nothing wrong with line dancing-anyone to knock it has obviously never tried it !! It certainly drew a lage crowd !! Come on moaners! Get your cowboy hats on folks and enjoy what life has to offer instead of grinding us down with grumbling and negative attitude!!!

  12. I THINK THAT PARTY IN THE PARK WAS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH IT IS THE SAME EVERY YEAR!!! WE NEED SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR ALL AGES SCRAP THE LINE DANCING BECAUSE TO BE HONEST THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT SEEMED TO ENJOY IT WAS BOB AND THE ATTENTION SEEKER IN THE BLUE!!! I THINK NEXT YEAR SOMEONE NEW SHOULD ORGANISE IT NOT BOB BECAUSE HE HAS HAD HIS CHANCE AND ITS TIME TO HANG HIS LINE DANCING BOOTS UP BYEEE BOB!!! : )

Could the Carnival Committee explain why, after so many years of experience, they still require a consultant?

  14. part in the park was yet again, a confirmation that Bob has overstayed his time as over paid consultant, no offence but that money couldhave be added to the budget…What started out as a traditional carnival, full of life and real life vibrancy, has become repetitive, boring, outdated, reduced hugley in size, lost any connection to a carnival. It completley ignores the needs of the teenagers on the estate, and they just end up hangin round lookin totally bored. Most of the activities and retail stalls are way overpriced, ie £2 for a standard icecream…The linedancing really is rubbish, and it is only there year after year for the benefit of Bob, sorry but true..Yes more people do need to join the commitee, however it works both ways, and the comittee, need to be more open to ideas of local people that do take the time out to attend…A complete review, and overhaul is needed I think, with hopefully a more positive review next year…as for the swordfight, well that spoke for itself really didn’t it….come on, give ya heads a wobble…
