Petrol cheats

Seven drivers filled up with petrol and drove off without paying last month from the Sainsbury’s Filling Station in Castle Vale. This is one example of theft cases which have contributed to an 11% rise in crime across Castle Vale for June compared with the same month last year. Theft cases account for the biggest rise. There were 32 cases of theft in Vale last month, the majority of them occurring on the Retail Park, notably at Sainsbury’s Supermarket and TK Maxx.
Police have planned a meeting with the manager of Sainsburys and her security staff to advise them on how to tackle the problem. 19 of the 32 theft cases have resulted in arrests.
There was another rise in assault cases in June. 18 assaults were recorded last month, compared with 10 in June 2009. This is the second consecutive sharp rise in assault cases. Sergeant Tambling told the monthly Police Tasking meeting that the assault cases are not random attacks, nor are they alcohol fuelled. 17 of the 18 assault offenders have been arrested.
