we are very lucky to have the avalibility and money proposed to repair and maintain the astro-turf. With all the cut backs within all the councles across the country we should all get on the band wagon and get what we can while we can it will be excellent for all orginised clubs and residents of castle vale. Come on lets get together and make sure we get the work done whilst the money is avalible.

  2. And finally…. someone says something sensible!!
Well said Paul, hope you are ok mate

  3. to paul and chunky ( if i may call you that)
you say we have the money,,,do we,,where has it come from ????
and more importantly could it be better spent some where else on the estate for the betterment of more people,,,thats why we are having a poll….

  4. its council tax payers money john and it could be spent better elsewhere but unfortunately it wont be

  5. its council tax payers money and you are right, it could be spent better elsewhere, for example, we could do with more bins on the estate, although educating people to use them is another matter entirely!!!!!!

  6. It’s a good thing to have some money spent on sports facilities for the estate, everything is seeming to get pulled from the Vale.

Let’s get some positive things coming back to us!

  7. ITS NOT TAX PAYERS MONEY, ITS MONEY THAT WAS LEFT BY THE HAT TO DEVELOP THE FARNBOROUGH ROAD PLAYING FIELDS AND STADIUM. THE AMOUNT LEFT WAS £380,000.00

  8. i am all for getting it fixed but hadent we look at gettin changeing rooms for teams that are already on here
like when the young teams have to play on here there nowhere to get changed a child souldent have to get changed in his/her mom or dads car there sould be facilities for them its wrong not having none when there loads of young teams aswel as adults teams on here

  9. when the website is updated, remove this poll as it is an utter waste of time and just a vehicle for saddos like chunky nuts and the ilk to moan about the fact that the majority want money spent in much more important areas to improve the estate, not unnecessary luxuries. as has already been pointed out, they will get their astroturf regardless what the majority thinks on the matter, the poll doesnt mean a thing. the funds are in place and the work will commence regardless. can someone from the cvcha or the vale mail explain why this poll was put here in the first place when the outcome has already been decided.

  10. i think you’ll find the majority of votes are against the refurb, as i asked earlier, what more important area’s would you spend the money?

  11. You will find that the majority of votes are against the refurb because they are listening to the rumours and txt messages that are going around the vale.
Txt messages are going around telling people to vote no because the prices to hire the pitches will rise. that is absolute rubbish! Once up and running the astro pitch will not only pay for its own upkeep it will provide money for the upkeep of the pitches as well.
The poll is a complete waste of time!
Of course the astro turf has got to be refurbed.

  12. just a thought, but……. a lot has been said about how it would be good for the area to have enhanced facilities like the astroturf here. how do people reach this conclusion exactly? the area of witton has a football ground that currently plays host to a team in the premier league but the only thing good about the area of witton is the big tescos that has been built there!

  13. I’m Back Again
i think there a lot of people being very selfish about this astroturf,,they would like it for the monority, the few footballers that play on the estate.we shouldnt be interested in making other people pay to use the pitch and MAKE A PROFIT,,,,,I DONT THINK SO…..
IT SOUND LIKE ANOTHER BLACK HOLE FOR THE STADIUM FUNDS………..
There are some very strange people on the estate,,or are they from the estate ????.
Why would people txt other people on the estate about the astroturf….
If nothing else its got people typing and looking at the vale mail,,,and thats got to be a good thing…..

  14. IT ISNT ABOUT MAKING A PROFIT.
ITS ALL ABOUT BRINGING IN REVENUE TO PAY FOR THE UPKEEP OF THE FACILITIES ON FARNBOROUGH ROAD.

  15. The poll has now been removed (why)
at the last count it was 69 votes to the yes camp
    and
    1564 to the no camp
    I think the NO’s have it……..
    lets wait and see ????????????

  16. The poll hasn’t been removed. I have just removed the ‘sticky post’ from it, which means it does not automatically stay at the top of the page.
It’s on the 26th July posting; the link is: https://valemail.wordpress.com/2010/07/26/astroturf-pitch-online-poll/

  17. can i direct Clive to my previous posting regarding the poll and ask the question again, why was the poll put on here in the first place if the decision has already been made? i can only presume its to give cvcha some idea of the percentage of people that they ignore day in, day out but i could be wrong. maybe you can enlighten me. the majority has spoken (even if it will be proven useless in the end). If the results were more favourable towards the astroturf, i suspect there would be a big headline saying so!

  18. Local councillor Mike Sharpe chairs a sub-committee that is trying to get things moving at the sports stadium following years of frustration with the sports village venture. It is a sub- committee of the Neighbourhood Partnership Board… not CVCHA. The Neighbourhood Partnership Board contains a mixture of resident members and professional members – most institutions, including education, health, housing, police, council etc….are represented on the NPB which is chaired by Lord Corbett and meets once every three months.
Mike Sharpe asked me whether I would write an article about the proposal for the astroturf. I did so; it was in last month’s Vale Mail. He wanted to make residents aware of the possibility of refurbing the astroturf, and ask their opinion.
That is why the article was headlined ‘askroturf.’
I learned from one of the committee that the cost of the astroturf refurb would be £166k so I included that detail – it is a vital piece of information if the public debate is to be well informed.
The article said that people could communicate their views via letter or email to the sub committee via Vale Mail.
Having had a few phone calls and emails about the issue, I decided that it might be worth extending the article onto the website pages, especially since the website is getting so much traffic during the past six weeks.
I also thought that an online poll might help – for people who had an opinion but did not want to express it in any length.
I have communicated all the results, e mails, phone messages and website comments to the sub committee, and will update them before the Neighbourhood Partnership Board meets this Thursday.
Regarding the astroturf, I have no view either way. My job is to publicise the issue impartially and to enable a forum for public discussion.
You say that the decision has already been made. I am not aware of that, and would have reported it if it were so, because that would be a very newsworthy and important issue.
As a post script, might I add that I am pleased that the forum, and the poll has attracted so much interest. The comments sections seem to have put both sides of the argument very well. Occasionally the forum has degenerated into bickering and sniping, but that’s often the way in issues that mean a lot to people.
I am keen to know what will happen next… and I will report it as objectively as I can.

  19. you mentioned the word frustration. on whos part exactly? the poll clearly shows the majority have no desire for the planned work to go ahead and feel money could be far better spent elsewhere. mike sharpe is a typical local councillor and never listens to what the majority want but then why should he, he doesnt live here. hope you can pass this message on too. maybe one day, we can finally have a councillor who actually lives on castle vale and looks after its needs rather than what outsiders like chunkynuts and company want.

  20. Right about this astro turf, i think personally it should get refurbed, it will keep the kids healthier and more active (you know as the goverment want the kids to be active, instead off playing there xbox or playstation), another thing is parents are to scared to let there kids out and play on it as the fences have been ripped down (for use in the stadium) and also the pitch is turning up and is danegerous so 2bh i dont blame them, once its all been done children adults can all go over and enjoy themselves and socialise thats what this communite needs.

AND AS FOR YOU PEOPLE WHO SAY THE MONEY SHOULD BE SPENT ON SOME OTHER THINGS MAY I ASK LIKE WHAT? SOMEONE SAID BINS, WELL SORRY IM SURE THERES ALREADY BINS AROUND, IF YOU HAVE MORE OF THEM AROUND IT WILL MAKE THE ESTAE MESSY AND ITS NOT THAT PEOPLE DONT EVEN USE THE BINS, OH AND ALSO THATS WHAT THE CVCHA AND COUNCIL DO LOOK AFTER THE ESTAE.

There is nothing for the kids to do on the estate, hasnt any of the older generation noticed this because i certinally have and this is what makes the kids behave the way they do BORDEM, THERE IS NOTHING FOR THEM TO DO.

thanks for reading guys just think off it kids will come back happy as theve played a game off footy with there friends and wont be bred and decide to pull out trees or something.
    many thanks

  21. chunkynuts is back, or should we now call you Big J?
is the j short for jerk or junkie.

  22. i was just thinking the same thing, although i wouldnt put it quite as bluntly as that. why do you continue to come on here and wind people up chunkynuts, big j or whatever it is you choose to call yourself? we aint interested in what you have to say, you have said your piece and we aint interested in you flashing your money around here, so grow up and find somewhere else to troll

  23. eileen dover

i thought the poster looked familiar. and he more or less posts at the same times too!!! i thought he said he wasnt going to post again. you would think with all the money he has been boasting about, he would be out there enjoying it, unlike us poor beggars who have to stay in cause we are skint. if ever there was need for another reason to boycott the astroturf, chunkynuts has well and truly provided it…the guy is a first class idiot

  24. michael - yatesbury avenue

morning all. i see we still havent mananged to get rid of chunky nuts yet. oh well, not to worry, schools go back soon and we can have a bit of sense return to the blog.

  25. J is for John You “anonymous THICKO”!

  26. Big J

Please let all the losers below KNOW that you are NOT CN and that this is your genuine opinion.

Some people struggle to move on in life and just simply cant accept the fact that chunkynuts simply popped in a few times to try and get support for the astro pitch refurb and has now moved on.

Please if you can BIG J let these saddo’s know that you are a guy with an opinion that should be taken in to account rather than people just going ooh it CN to anyone who has anything remotely interesting or sincere to say.

Eileen, Miranda and michael obviously need to know that they are wrong and need to move on now and that they have got rid of CN

  27. Michael that really isnt chunkynuts ok so please have a break have a kitkat. Count to 10 slowly and breathe deeply in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Then when you are ready focus all your attention on something a little more important in your life.

  28. Eileen you should join Michael with his little breathing exercise and if you are quick maybe you can share the kitkat.

  29. Miranda im sorry to say that Big J isnt chunkynuts ok, if its difficult to deal with please see how Michael is dealing with it.

  30. Hello Leeza

A good councillor doesnt really need to live on the Vale, he just needs to be GOOD. The other thing is the astro will mainly be used by kids so maybe we should ask them if they would like to play over there.
If no-one is prepared to stick up for the kids or try to get better facillities for them then maybe they should get there say. Maybe we should get there opinion on what they would like to see over there, maybe its just a brand new decent modern play area that they want.

I dont think it would do any harm to ask, what do you think?
