Racers play cat and mouse with police

Police intervened to stop the drag racing near Spitfire Island tonight on two separate occasions. While dozens of spectators watched cars racing towards the Fort Shopping Centre, a police car pulled into the entrance to B and Q and officers took details of drivers. But many other drivers parked their cars in nearby lay-bys, and along with spectators, waited for the police to depart before continuing their racing.
Police returned to stop the racing for a second time at around 10.10pm.
The Sunday night car racing along the Fort Parkway has been a noisy feature of weekend, particularly Sunday evenings, throughout the summer.
