Car hits tree after police chase

Police are asking for witnesses to a road traffic accident in the early hours of Friday morning when a driver lost control and hit a tree shortly after being pursued by a police car. The incident happened  just after 3am on 29th  October at the junction of Sutton New Road and Wilton Road in Erdington, Birmingham.
The driver, a man aged 31, was freed from the car by the fire service. He was taken to hospital with injuries to his arm where he remains in a stable condition.
A male passenger aged 34 has been treated for minor injuries to his leg and discharged from hospital.
The collision is being investigated by the West Midlands Police Professional Standards Department and has been referred to the IPCC (Independent Police Complaints Commission). Anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with information should call force traffic on 0345 113 5000.
