High Speed Rail protest

CADBURY DRIVE residents are planning a high risk protest against the proposed High Speed Rail link that will run just yards from their front gardens and may cause some homes to be taken off them in a government compulsory order scheme. Ten residents are planning to strap themselves to the railway line adjacent to Cadbury Drive just before the passing of the mid-day train from London to Birmingham New Street. The leader of the group, George Stephenson, will walk along the line towards the train as it approaches, waving a red flag.
“I’m confident that at today’s speed, the train driver will be able to stop his train in time,” said Mr Stephenson. “But if the High Speed Rail Link goes ahead, these 250 mph trains wouldn’t be able to stop. That’s the whole point of the protest.”
