Noisy tannoy nuisance

A local resident has complained to the City Council about the noise from tannoys making announcements to employees. She says it has been going on for some months, and happens throughout the day and night. The residents of Manby Road and the Kingsbury Road side of the estate are affected, she says. Despite various enquiries, she has been unable to locate the specific source of the tannoy announcements, but says that she has been told by the Council that they will send an officer to monitor the noise.
The week beginning 23rd May is National Noise Week – the City Council say they are planning a number of ‘raids’ linked to noise nuisance cases.

  1. Maybe I shall report my neighbours, due to the noise coming from them late at night and the early hours of the morning. I have not complained over the past months, even though they keep me awake every night with loud music and parties going on until 6am. I have not wanted to complain, because I hate confrontation, and have instead taken to wearing earplugs every night, even though the noise is so loud that it gets through them. However, the other night, I couldn’t take any more and banged on the wall at 2am, because there was another group of teenagers shouting and listening to music. Touch wood, but the past two nights there has been no noise. Maybe banging on the wall is the answer. Unfortunately, I have become so used to the noise, that even though the past two nights have been quiet, I have had no sleep at all, waiting for it to begin. And the sleeping pills the doctor prescribed me no longer work. So, I understand how noise can ruin people’s lives, and find it frustrating that there are so many who couldn’t care less about the upset they are causing.

  2. Muldanian, I seem to remember you mentioning this before and I also think that someone advised you to make a complaint and I would reinforce that view. No one should have to live their lives on sleeping pills and having to wear ear plugs to get to sleep in their own home because of the inconsiderate behaviour of their neighbours.

If your neighbours are CVCHA tenants then I would urge you speak with your housing officer as your neighbours may be in breach of their tenancy conditions. If you are a CVCHA tenant and your neighbours are not, then still speak with the housing officer, they will be able to offer advice on the best course of action to take. You do not have to just put up with the noise.

If you need an advocate to speak to CVCHA on your behalf then the TRA can help. They are based at the Community Campus in High Street or can be contacted on 0121 747 5932. I hope this helps.

  3. Yes, I agree that complaining to the CVCHA is the appropriate action to take, especially as both my neighbour and myself are their tenants. However I have been reluctant to do this, because I have to live here, and would feel uncomfortable, if I went down that road. In addition, I have in mind a similar situation 15 years ago, when complaining to the housing department led to a reign of terror, which included bricks thrown through my window every night; the neighbours kicking in the front door at midnight; and both myself and my mother being physically attacked. I decided that making complaints again would not be worth it, and have tried to avoid this at all costs. But, if it continues, I will be forced to take such action. Thanks for the information and phone number.

  4. I was taking my usual walk today around Castle Vale, and when walking past Kingsbury Road, I heard the tannoy for the first time. It was a woman’s voice, which I thought sounded mechanical. It seemed though to be coming from the direction of the speed camera, rather than from the industrial site on the other side of Kingsbury Road. I don’t know if this is the same thing that residents have heard.

  5. i KNOW EVERYONE IS TRYING TO GIVE GOOD ADVICE WHEN THEY SAY COMPLAIN TO CVCHA BUT THEY DO NOT DO ANYTHING QUICKLY I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT MY NEIGHBOUR FOR 15 MONTHS WITH INDEPENDENT WITNESS STATEMENTS,PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE,MY OTHER NEIGHBOURS HAVE COMPLAINED ,THERE HAS BEEN POLICE INVOLVMENT,ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH INVOLVMENT AND SO FAR I HAVE HAD THE BACKLASH OFF MY NEIGHBOUR AND A “STOP IT”TOLD TO THEM BY CVCHA SO JUST MAKE SURE IT WOULD BE THE BEST THING FOR YOU BECAUSE ONCE IT STARTS IT DOES NOT STOP AND CVCHA DO NOT LIVE THERE AND DO NOT HAVE TO PUT UP WITH WHAT HAPPENS AND THEY SAY THEY WILL SUPPORT YOU BUT IN MY EXPERIANCE THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN .

  6. just to add to my earlier comment my neighbour issues still are ongoing and i feel like my life has been made more of a misery from complaining because they know the complaints have come from me as some of them it could have only been me and i have now been made to live with them constantly trying to antaginise me and there friends and visitors so i now have alot of people that do not like me.my other neighbours have complained anonomousley because they are scared and cvcha know this. The amount of evidence i have supplied is ridiculos and for them to make me suffer this for 15 and still going is a disgrace. When i was originally considering starting to complain i had all the same advice as you and was told cvcha are really good at dealing with this sort of thing and they will not stand it but take it from someone who knows that is not true.I know good people have to stand up against these people and im all for it but you have to be strong because really the only people who have the power to do something about it are cvcha and in my experience they try to belittle it and push it under the carpet. So if you do complain be prepared to deal with it on your own for along time.
