Crime rise due to petrol thefts

The crime count in Castle Vale rose slightly last month, from 74 to 76 in comparison with the same month last year.
Petrol thefts were the highest single crime statistic, for the fifth successive month. There were 16 incidents of petrol theft – drivers leaving the forecourt without paying- during May.
Sergeant James Nix said that all of these thefts were from the Sainsbury’s forecourt. Police believe that a number of the thefts are being carried out by two men from the West Midlands area. They use false number plates, fill up their vehicles with petrol, drive off and siphon out the petrol before re-selling it, he said.
Thefts of various kinds accounted for 57% of all crime in the area in May.
