Nurse Kay ups the pace

Kay with her daughters at the Great Midlands Fun Run

Kay Whitehead, a 36 year-old John Taylor Hospice clinical nurse specialist and mother of three is planning to take a step up from fun run to half marathon by entering the Great Birmingham Run in October.
Kay first started running at the gym after the birth of her third child. “I wanted my body back!” she jokes. “I’m nervous about the run. 13.1 miles is a really long way! I agreed to take on the challenge after a night out. So, despite a foggy head I wouldn’t back down and I signed up the very next morning.”
Kay’s job sees her give specialist palliative care to the people of Kingstanding, Birmingham. From emotional and psychological support to complex symptom control, Kay’s team is a lifeline to 150 people living with an incurable disease each week.
Kay aims to raise £500—that’s how much it costs someone and their family to stay at the Hospice’s In Patient unit for 24 hours.
To join the team at the Great Birmingham Run call Sarah Jayne Shelton on 0121 465 2000.
