Welsh National Opera: voices explore the mind and touch the heart

A small audience of 35 was treated to some high culture on a bittersweet theme tonight at Castle Vale School. The Welsh National Opera and a string quartet performed their project, Horizons. It combines poetry, opera and classical music to explore the theme of special needs at opposite ends of life -childhood and old age. Dementia patients and pupils at special schools have been the inspiration to the project, which was performed earlier in the afternoon at the Ridings Care Home. The beautiful voices of the three singers, some touching lyrics and poetry, accompanied by gentle strings and keyboard, provided a poignant and powerful performance.

  1. This was a moving performance and the audience were really sharing an ongoing project which will eventually become a film and DVD. No one was left unmoved by the sensitive treatment of what can be a difficult subject
